Gene amplifications and deletions frequently contribute to tumorigenesis. The characterization of DNA copy-number changes by Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH) has shown that these changes are not occurring randomly. As summarized in the previous chapter, recurring patterns of chromosomal abnormalities are specific for certain histo-types of tumors and are associated with the biological behavior of the tumor, e.g., metastasis formation.
