Northern protocol(RULES FOR RNA WORK)
1. Wear gloves at all time including filling pipet tip in racks, filling jars with Eppendorf tubes, and weighing chemicals to prepare solutions.
2. Pull weighing paper or weighing boat from middle of pile. Tap chemicals out of bottles. Use weighing boats or specimen cups found in chemicals in buckets for spooning those chemicals out for weighing.
3. Designate specific bottles for each solution. To prepare new batch of solution, just rinse bottles with ultrafiltered (UF) water.
4. All solutions to be autoclaved are prepared in UF water and autoclaved for 40 min. Solutions not to be autoclaved are prepared in autoclaved water.
5. Disposables are sterilized by baking at 1100 C for 2 hr.
6. Metal and glass are sterilized by baking at 2200 C overnight.
